Happy fall y’all! It is finally starting to cool off a bit in Kentucky and pumpkin-spiced everything is makin' its comeback. With the crisp air, cozy vibes, and vibrant foliage, fall sets the perfect backdrop for heartwarming and colorful photos.

In my last blog post, I gave you six great tips for planning for your fall photoshoot, and today, I’m here to help guide you through the process of selecting the perfect outfits for your fall photo session. So, let's dive into some fall outfit tips that will have you and your crew looking and feeling your best while creating lasting memories.

1. COORDINATE, DON'T MATCH
Gone are the days of perfectly matching outfits for every family member. Opt for coordination instead! Select a color palette that works well together and build outfits around those shades. This approach not only adds depth to your photos but also allows each person's personality to shine through.

2. EMBRACE THE COLORS OF AUTUMN
When it comes to fall, nature showcases its finest color palette – and your outfits should do the same. Think rich burgundies, burnt oranges, olive greens, deep mustards, and cozy browns. These warm, earthy tones blend seamlessly with the surroundings and create a visual harmony that will make your photos pop.

3. ADD IN COZY LAYERS
Fall weather can be a bit of a mixed bag, so it's wise to opt for outfits that can adapt to changing temperatures. Layering is your friend. Throw on a chunky cardigan, a light denim jacket, or your favorite cozy scarf. Anything that you can easily add or remove as needed will be perfect. Not only does this add depth and dimension to your photos, but it also ensures that you're comfortable and prepared for changing weather conditions during the session.

4. PLAY WITH PATTERNS AND TEXTURES
Fall is the perfect time to experiment with patterns and textures. Incorporate plaids, checks, knit sweaters, and all things cozy for that quintessential fall vibe. Just remember to mix and match patterns subtly and balance them with solid-colored pieces so that they can enhance the overall look without overwhelming it.

5. ACCESSORIZE TO ELEVATE YOUR STYLE
Accessories are the punctuation marks of your outfit – they bring your style to life! Make sure to throw in some jewelry, hair accessories, belts, suspenders, etc. These small additions can make a world of difference in your photos. Not only do they add visual interest, but they also provide an opportunity to show off your personality.

6. FOOTWEAR THAT FITS THE SEASON
Your choice of footwear can make or break your fall ‘fit. Boots, flats, or stylish sneakers can all be great options. Think about the overall style you're aiming for – boots can add a touch of sophistication, while sneakers can bring a more casual and playful vibe. Comfort is key, so make sure your shoes are suited for the location and terrain of your photoshoot.

7. PRIORITIZE COMFORT AND CONFIDENCE
No matter how incredible an outfit is, if you're not comfortable in it, it will show in your photos. Avoid itchy fabrics or clothing that's too restrictive. Instead, choose clothes that fit well, allow you to move freely, and make you feel confident.  When you feel good, your confidence and personality will be able to shine through in the photos.

8. PLAN AHEAD AND TEST YOUR OUTFITS
Last-minute outfit decisions can lead to unnecessary stress. Make sure to plan your outfits at least a few days before the photoshoot. And before the big day, have a mini fashion show at home. Try your outfits on, and make sure everything fits well and looks great together. This helps you avoid any surprises and helps you be fully prepared for your session. It’s also a good idea to lay out your outfits the night before your session; this will save you a ton of time on the day of.
